About Us

Dating and money are not typically two topics that come together in the same sentence. Yet, for "suddenly single" women out there, the reality is that these two world will collide before we are often ready. Join me here as we explore these topics together and get ready for the release of my new book, "Dating Our Money." Welcome!

The Joy of a Tough Victory

Change can be tough. I just moved half way across the country and feel like my world has been rocked! Starting again with friends and a new home can seem overwhelming especially with the thought of an enormous snow storm quickly approaching. Yuck! I have been living in the south so this is a radical shock. When moving, my sons and I had talks about the soccer. I asked them “What victory would you enjoy more…if you won 40-0 or of you won in overtime 28-27.?” My boys gratefully answered 28-27 because they were pushed to use all there skills and try their best. Moving was like that for me. We could stay in the South with all our close friends and live comfortably or move and have to push ourselves and learn new skills. Aren’t these same choices asked of each of us with dating and managing our money? I have stayed in many relationships way too long because they were comfortable. Don’t we often keep our money invested in a mutual fund that is not performing well because we don’t want to take the effort to research and learn what is the best choice. We may even stay with a financial advisor too long when they have underperformed the market because they are friends or neighbors. Right now may be the time to push yourself and not stay with a mutual fund that is not keeping up with the S&P or look at other financial advisor that may have a fresh perspective to offer. Morningstar makes it so easy to research and learn information about stocks that will meet your financial goals. Please remember that each person has their own goals. No ones are better or worse just different.

Today think of how joyful you would be if you knew you could retire comfortably or provide for your children’s education. You would sleep well at night. Making the effort in the short term to make changes to your financial strategy can reap long lasting victories! Start today by listing your top three money priorities. Are they paying off credit card debts, saving for a house or getting a better paying job. It is time to make a list of baby steps you can do to achieve these goals. Remember to take small steps and they will lead to big victories. Just stopping drinking sodas or coffee out at restaurants can save you thousands over a lifetime. Please make the effort to go on the internet to the coffee cost calculator or soda cost calculator and learn how big this small step could be in your victory for financial freedom.

Stay warm!
