Wow! Sometimes children can teach you some of the biggest lessons we need to learn. This week I had a friend in town to audition for a position with the symphony. He had practiced every day for weeks to prepare for this audition. Unfortunately, he did not make the cut. When my children saw him after the audition, they just said good job and hoped he had fun trying. They even wanted to have a party for him because he worked so hard practicing.
Often, we forget that life doesn’t always guarantee us the perfect outcome, perfect job or perfect boyfriend. Yet, we can have fun in the journey and learn to not always sweat the outcome. Each of us have goals for our life and think we will be happy once…(You can fill in the blank…once I have a boyfriend, once I own a house or once I get promoted). The true gift in life comes when we can learn to enjoy the moment and enjoy the journey. It is ok to not have all the answers now. You can learn and grown so much from failures. There is rarely a story of a truly successful person who has not lost everything in life at one point. They would not change that failure for anything because it put life in perspective.
I never would have wished for my husband to ever pass on but it is interesting how this event has radically changed my direction in life. I love my life now and know that each tough lesson has created the person I am today. The unshakable confidence I have learned in life that nothing can truly shake me is a priceless gift.
In these blogs and through my upcoming book, I am going to teach you valuable lessons to make sure you don’t make big money mistakes but please remember that your mistakes may seem unforgivable while you are in the midst of the storm. Yet, you will look back in time and realize that those mistakes are your true stepping stones in life.
I was reading a book by Patrick Kelly called Tax-Free Retirement. He tells us as a child his mother would ask him a simple question, “Would you rather have someone give you $1,000,000.00 or a penny that doubled its value every day for a month?” Most people would probably instantly reply $1,000,000. Now, start doing the calculation…The author then explains “That penny is worth almost eleven times that million dollar offer for a 30 day period ($10,737,418.72 to be exact), and twenty-one and a half times more than the million-dollar offer for a 31-day month ($21,474,836.48 to be exact).” This is the reminder that short term gratification is not always the best answer or best return on your money! Today, take a moment to be grateful for the journey you are on and don’t always sweat the small stuff. These life lessons may end up priceless!
