Dating and money are not typically two topics that come together in the same sentence. Yet, for "suddenly single" women out there, the reality is that these two world will collide before we are often ready. Join me here as we explore these topics together and get ready for the release of my new book, "Dating Our Money." Welcome!

Laugh and Learn

I love going on dates and hearing men talk about how this woman from their past went “psycho” on them. What creates a “psycho” woman for most men? Someone who acts too needy. The woman is not listening to what the guy is saying and just assumes he shares the same feelings and values as her. Women wake up! On my office wall is a bumper sticker that states, “A Man Is Not A Financial Plan!”* Women often still dream that a man is coming

to rescue them financially and emotionally and often forget to heed the warning signs. A man often comes with even more financial baggage then we already have. Please women take off our rose-colored glasses and see the man for who he is before he leads you into debt!

Why do women often act too needy and turn “psycho”? It is often because we are scared. Scared of possibly being alone forever. The #1 trait guys find most attractive in a girl is confidence. If you are radiating fear, you could possibly attract the wrong people who might even think an abusive relationship is ok. Right now,if you are scared instead of going on another bad date please take some time facing your fear, getting comfortable being alone and creating a plan for the future. I feel more confident when I have a plan and goals.

A huge step came for me one Saturday night when my “girlfriend” ditched me. (Really, she ended up in the hospital and no cell phones were allowed so she could not call.) I was so mad that I decided I did not care and went to a movie by myself. This seemed like the scariest thing imaginable going by myself to a movie on a Saturday night. Funny thing was… it was not hard. I even enjoyed it. Feeling brave I even ate out by myself that night. It was a big lesson that when you confront your biggest fear, it often can turn powerless.

Managing money can seem just as overwhelming and scary so let’s take the first baby step today and buy a journal. Start keeping track of every little expense. You will see how painless and helpful this new information can be.
